Category: Things to Do in Monterey

Enjoy the amazing 17-mile drive along Monterey with a loved one, or just take a nice road trip with some friends. The 17-mile drive includes historical scenery and stunning geological beauties. Start your drive at the quaint town of  Pacific Grove. The scenic drive starts when you cross Highway 68, and the entrance of pebble beach marks the start.

About 17 Mile Drive

There are 21 visually stunning stops along the 17-mile drive. Some of the stops that you will see are Shepards Knoll which offers a gorgeous view of Monterey Bay, Huckleberry Hill, appropriately named due to a hill full of huckleberries that rests 800 feet above sea level, and Poppy Hills Golf Course, Spyglass Hill Golf Course, and the Inn and Links at Spanish Bay with pure white sand.  Additional stops along this renowned scenic drive are the Restless Sea with waves constantly crashing against the shore and into each other, and the Ghost Tree is known as one of the best spots for giant waves, and Point Joe which is famous for wrecking ships. Other stops along 17-mile drive are China Rock, Bird Rock a favorite basking spot by sea lions, and Seal Rock Picnic area where sea lions love to play, and Fanshell Beach offers visitors a chance to see where seals often raise their young.  Crocker Grove displays stately trees, and a favorite among visitors is The Lone Cypress where a lonely 250-year-old cypress tree rests. For those traveling to the area to play golf, the Peter Hay Par-3 Golf Course offers great ocean views while you play.  The Pebble Beach Equestrian Center opened in 1924, and Hosted US trials in 1960 for the Olympics is also along the 17-mile drive.

Pebble Beach events

There are a few extremely popular events at Pebble Beach, including the Pebble Beach US Open, where every decade swarms of people flock at Pebble Beach and watch the best golfers try to conquer the toughest green courses on Pebble Beach. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM is another popular event the PGA tour has been part of for the past 70 years.
